Introduction to Genocide

Genocide Essential Question:

How do people get away with genocide before the world is knowledgeable on the event?

Answer:

Groups of leadership are able to get away with genocide before the worlds knows it actually happens, by making the world think the aren’t trying to create a genocide. They control the flow of information. For example, the very first news stories with pictures and videos were not published until a year or two after the war started. They deny any accusations that they are doing this. They also do this atrocity in a short amount of time. The Bosnian genocide happened in a span of about 3 years. The holocaust happened also in the span of just a few years. The world does not step in because it only looks like ethnic cleansing for a while but when they finally realized that a genocide was happening, they were too late to stop it. The perpetrators are usually the most powerful people of a society. This makes it easier for them to get away with it. They can put restrictions on the people and control whats happens in the society. No one is able to fight back and so the perpetrators can easily get away with it for a while. At least until the world fights back.
